Known limitations

What XenoCore 1.1.0 does not do, so you can plan around it before you build on it. Each line links to where the topic is covered.

Platform and project

  • Unreal Engine 5.8 only. Other engine versions are not supported; a new engine version gets a new upload after it has been re-tested. See Compatibility.
  • Windows 64-bit only. Both C++ modules are built for Win64; macOS, Linux, consoles and mobile are not supported.
  • Lyra only. XenoCore is a Game Feature plugin built on Lyra's C++ and does not run in a project that is not based on Lyra Starter Game 5.8.
  • Compiled from source on first open. You need Visual Studio 2022; see Requirements.
  • Needs VRM4U. The sample party runs on the free VRM4U plugin, which you download separately.

Game type

  • Single-player only. Nothing is replicated or predicted for networking, and some systems rely on that. Multiplayer is not a setting you can turn on; see Compatibility.
  • A framework, not a finished game. There is no story, and the sample numbers (enemy stats, prices, rewards) are a starting point to tune.

Sample content

  • One sample region. Gaur Plain is the only field map, plus the title-screen map and a small test gym.
  • Gaur Plain is not a World Partition map. It loads as one level. Build your own large maps with World Partition: see Build a world-partition map.
  • No music included. The area and battle music system works, but every track slot is empty, so the game is silent until you add your own tracks. See Give a map its music.
  • The sample voices are AI-generated. See Battle voices to replace them with your own recordings.

Not built yet

  • Taking some items from a chest. The loot panel offers Take All or Take None; choosing individual items is not built. See Loot.
  • Some skills are stand-ins. 63 of the 100 sample skills do a simpler thing than their name suggests, because the system they need (tension, visions, chain attacks, counters, gem crafting and others) does not exist yet. See Skills.
  • Skill Links. The setting exists but nothing reads it. See Skills.
  • Some Party Gauge fill reasons. The fill table prices Burst Affinity, very high Tension and Chain Attack kills, but none of those mechanics exist yet. See Party Gauge, downed and revive.
  • Time of day extras. Night-only enemies, time-gated collectables and NPC schedules, wet surfaces and a distant rain curtain. See Time of day and weather.
  • Minimap options. Rotation and hiding are console commands only; there is no options-menu entry. See Minimap.
