Set palette slots and unlocks¶
Designer · 20 min · No code
Result: you decide how many Art slots the palette has at each level, which Arts each character learns and when, and which slot each Art starts in. The player then rearranges them on the Arts menu.

The three settings¶
| What | Where | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| How many slots open at which level | Game/BP_XenoCore_Progression, Class Defaults › XenoCore › Arts |
Art Slot Unlock Levels |
| Which Arts a character learns, and when | A learnset Data Table, set as Art Learn Table on the character's pawn Blueprint, Class Defaults › XenoCore › Arts | One row per Art |
| Where a learned Art starts | Each learnset row | Default Slot |
Art Slot Unlock Levels is one list for every character: entry i is the character level at
which slot i opens. The default is 1, 1, 1, 12, 20, 28, 34, 40: three slots from the start,
eight by level 40. The list's length is the palette's full width, so slots not yet open draw as
locked. Eight entries of 1 give every slot from the start. Keep the list ascending.
Slots are numbered in unlock order, not left to right. The bar fills from the centre out: slot 0 sits immediately left of the Talent Art, slot 1 immediately right, slot 2 next left, slot 3 next right, and so on. So with the default list, the further a slot is from the centre, the later it opens. Default Slot counts the same way.
A learnset is a Data Table whose row structure is XenoCoreArtUnlock. Each row holds an Art,
an Unlock Level (1 or more) and a Default Slot (0 to 7, or -1 for learned but not
placed). The row name is free text; only the columns matter, and rows are read sorted by
Unlock Level, so their order does not matter either. The shipped tables are in
Characters/Party/Learnsets/: DT_XenoCore_ArtLearnset_Default on
Characters/Party/B_XenoCore_PartyMember_Base, and one per sample character: _Kael, _Mira,
_Nia, _Dorran, _Isolde, _Sabine and _Tamsin. Each VRoid member's pawn
(Characters/VRoid/<Name>/B_XenoCore_Party_VRoid_*) points at its own table, and so does the
matching colour-variant pawn. Kael's, for example, adds Stream Edge and War Swing to the Back
Slash / Light Heal / Air Slash start; Isolde, Sabine and Tamsin have their own Arts entirely.
Steps¶
1. Choose the slot ladder¶
- Open
Game/BP_XenoCore_Progressionand click Class Defaults. - Edit Art Slot Unlock Levels. For example,
1, 1, 5, 10, 15, 20gives two slots at the start, a sixth at level 20, and a six-wide palette. - Compile and Save.
Wider than eight
Default Slot accepts 0 to 7, so a ninth slot or later can only be filled from the Arts
menu. The palette widget has no hard limit: it repeats its slot art outward from the centre for
every entry. XC1's bar is eight wide; keep the list to eight entries or fewer unless you have
checked a wider bar fits your screen.
2. Choose each character's Arts¶
- Make the character a learnset. Duplicate
Characters/Party/Learnsets/DT_XenoCore_ArtLearnset_Defaultinto your own folder asDT_Rook_ArtLearnset(it is a table, not a concrete Art, so duplicating it is fine), or create a new Data Table with row structureXenoCoreArtUnlock. Learnsets can also be CSV-imported like any Data Table. -
Open it. Click Add for each row, rename it, and fill in the columns in the Row Editor:
Row Name Art Unlock Level Default Slot Lv01_FrostFanDA_FrostFan10Lv01_MendDA_Mend11Lv08_BackSlashDA_XenoCore_BackSlash8-1 -
Save.
- Open the character's pawn Blueprint, for example
B_Party_Rook, and click Class Defaults. Under XenoCore › Arts, set Art Learn Table toDT_Rook_ArtLearnset. - Compile and Save.
An Art is learned as soon as the character reaches its Unlock Level, including in reserve, and the level-up banner names it under that character. Default Slot is used only when the character's palette is first built. After that the player's arrangement is kept, and an Art learned later arrives in the Arts menu's list, not on the bar.
Fails silently: a Default Slot that isn't open yet
If Default Slot is a slot the character's level has not opened, the Art is learned but not placed. It is in the Arts menu, not on the bar. Use a slot that is open at the Unlock Level.
3. The player's side: the Arts menu¶
The Arts menu edits any roster member, benched ones included. Its Setting tab puts learned Arts into open slots; its Level Up tab spends Art Points. What the menu arranges is exactly what the battle palette shows, drawn from the centre out in both. The menu shows no slot numbers: a list row reads Equipped for an Art on the bar, an empty strip slot is Empty Slot, and a locked one is Locked Slot, whose detail line says This slot opens at level N.
The Arts menu cannot empty a slot yet: it can only put a different Art there, or move one. To
empty a slot while testing, type XenoSetArt <slot> none in the console (it edits the character
you are controlling), or call Set Art Slot with no Art from a Blueprint.
Palette Order¶
Each Art definition also has Palette Order (Art › Palette). It only matters for an Art that is granted to a character but is not in that character's stored palette: such Arts are drawn after the palette's own, sorted by Palette Order. For party members with an Art Learn Table, the slot decides and Palette Order is ignored.
Test it¶
- Press Play in
Maps/L_XenoCore_Gym. - Open the Arts menu and pick the character. The palette strip shows the open slots with your default Arts in them, and the rest locked.
- Type
XenoAwardExp 20000in the console. Open the Arts menu again: more slots are open and later Arts are in the list. - Move an Art into a newly opened slot, close the menu and engage. The battle palette matches.
XenoArts in the console prints the controlled character's learned Arts and palette.
XenoSetArt 3 Mend puts an Art whose name contains "Mend" into slot 3.
If it doesn't work¶
Fails silently: my learnset change does nothing
The character already has a palette from a save, or from an earlier session of the same Play. Default Slot only applies to an empty palette. Test with a new game.
The character still has the base Arts
You edited DT_XenoCore_ArtLearnset_Default instead of the character's own table, or the
character's Art Learn Table still points at the default. Every sample character has its
own table, so a row added to the default does not reach them. The player's own pawn,
Game/B_XenoCore_Player, uses Kael's table (DT_XenoCore_ArtLearnset_Kael) and also gets Back
Slash and Light Heal from its ability set, Game/AbilitySet_XenoCore_Hero.
An Art is on the bar twice, or not at all
Arts granted by an ability set and Arts from a learnset are merged when the palette is built. Give each character its Arts one way: through its Art Learn Table.
