Gaur Plain, the sample region, at the New Game start.
Fifteen minutes of play shows you every system you will build with. Keep Controls open the first time.
New Game starts you with Kael and Mira at Ragrinar Canyon Path, the canyon mouth at Gaur Plain's west tip. Gaur Plain is a 30 to 60 minute slice with seven quests and three hubs:
| Where | Who is there |
|---|---|
| The canyon mouth (start) | Save point; the Field Cook (quest Field Rations) |
| The camp, about 180 m north-east | Save point; Camp Captain (Clear the Road), Jeweller (Gem Cutter), Ranger (Lost Scout), Camp Quartermaster (shop), Wandering Trader (trade); Tamsin, who joins when you talk to her |
| Out on the plain | Hunter (Jade Hunt); Dorran and Sabine, who join; Nia, at the scout's camp the Ranger sends you to |
| Kamos Outpost, far east | Save point; Outpost Elder (The Unbroken), Outpost Smith (shop); Isolde, who joins once you finish her quest, Storm Supplies |
Some quests open only at a party level or after another quest: Clear the Road follows Field Rations.

A guided route¶
- Look around. Move, look, jump. Notice the party following you.
- Talk to someone. Walk up to an NPC and press Interact. Conversations advance with the same button.
- Take a quest. An NPC with a marker over their head has a quest. Accept it; the tracker appears on the HUD.
- Start a fight. New Game starts you at the west tip of Gaur Plain. Head out across the plain: the enemies
come in squads that get stronger the further you go, from a lone level 1 Plains Grunt about 55 m
from the start to a level 12 unique monster, Gorvath the Unbroken, about 760 m out. Each
enemy shows its
lvl.Nabove it. Grunts hear you run (walk past to avoid them), Rust Grunts and Brutes see you, and Bulwarks wait to be hit. Lock on and attack; your party draws their weapons and starts auto-attacking, and the rest of a squad joins in. The first time an enemy comes near, and the first time a fight starts, a tutorial card pauses the game to explain it; A pages through, B skips the rest. Tips can be switched off from the menu's Tutorials entry. - Lock on and use Arts. Lock on to the enemy, move along the palette with the D-pad, and use an Art. Watch its cooldown.
- Chain a reaction. Use a Break Art, then a Topple Art while the enemy is Broken. The enemy shows Topple, is knocked down and stops attacking for a few seconds. If a party member's HP hits zero, they kneel, downed. Walk over them and press Interact to revive them for one bar of the Party Gauge (the bars under the leader's HP).
- Win and loot. Killing one enemy of several moves your lock to the next; when the last one falls, the party sheathes and celebrates. Out of battle, HP recovers on its own. The last enemy of a squad leaves a chest. Open it and take its contents. Squads come back a minute or so after you leave them, so you can keep levelling.
- Level up. Enough experience brings a level-up banner for the party.
- Change equipment. Open the menu, go to Equipment, and change a weapon or armour piece. Watch the stats compare before you confirm.
- Swap the leader. Tap LT or RT (keyboard Z / C) to take control of the previous or next party member, in or out of battle. The Party screen in the menu does the same.
- Save. Use a save point, or check the autosave from the title screen.
You now have¶
